Are you really here, right now?

Your screen flashes a random sequence of colours. The camera watches the light reflect off you. A live face tracks that changing light; a photo or a replayed video cannot, because the sequence is only chosen at the moment of capture. No app, no NFC, and the video never leaves this device.

What this is, and honestly what it is not

  1. What it proves. The light bouncing off you follows a challenge only your screen and camera knew a moment ago. A pre-recorded video or a held-up photo cannot match an unpredictable, real-time light sequence. That is a genuine liveness signal.
  2. What it does not prove yet. This proof of concept does not read your passport chip, so it is not state-cryptographic identity. In the full design it is the app-less “substantial” tier: this liveness plus the passport’s machine-readable zone, a face match, and the same active light revealing the document’s optical security features.
  3. Where the data goes. Nowhere. Frames are analysed on this device and discarded. The counter above stays at zero while you run it.
